My 2005 Corvette was starting to lock up in park. I read several threads and watched three u-tube videos on how to repair it. To make a long story short I removed the console and cut a small plastic piece that would lock it in park.

Now I can put the car in gear without having my foot on the brake. The dealers want about $1400.00 and they replace the entire shifter. I spent $0.00 and now it will never lock up again. This is a problem with Corvettes from 2005 to 2013. It's a fairly easy fix but took a couple hours from start to finish. If you buy a new shifter assembly it can just lock up again sometime down the road. There is also a temporary fix in the owners manual and GM knew it was a problem in 2005 and continued to build the same type of shifter for several years.

So your car can be parked somewhere not running and whomever accidentally can knock into neutral for it to roll down the street a few hours later?

Yes but the steering column is still locked up. You still have to push the button on top of the shifter. The parking brake still works. I do not see where this is such a big deal because lots of older cars were just like this.
