2005 BMW M3 Liqui-Moly Synthoil Race Tech GT1 10W-60 13,000 miles

Flagged red for viscosity. What is the Liqui-Moly viscosity supposed to be for 10W-60? I looked on the spec sheet online and it gives come strange number i've never seen.

Coming up on 200,000 miles soon and will be time for rod bearing replacement.

Well, dang. That's interesting. I sent a sample to Blackstone when there was 2,000 miles on the oil. At that time the viscosity was 15.23 at 100C. They stated "A slightly thin viscosity isn't a big deal either".
I had my mechanic change the oil for me while he was doing other maintenance. Maybe he didn't use the Liqui-Moly 10W-60 I supplied to him. I really hope that isn't the case.

Have you had your rod bearing replaced? It looks like they are on their way out. It’s a maintenance item
The rod bearings were replaced at some point before I bought the car in 2017. I wasn't able to find out exactly when though. Current plan is to replace them at 200k.
 
Run 5W50 Redline, HPL.
Check Motul X-Power 10W60 if going that route. And never, EVER keep oil pass 5k in S54.
I've heard HPL is the best. It seems like the HPL should be able to go much farther than 5k miles though.
Is M1 FS X2 5W-50 an acceptable oil in an S54 with a 5k mile OCI? The car is in Texas so not really too worried about cold cold weather performance.

M1 is acceptable but it won't be shear stable as HPL and Redline. Remember, the key is to stay in grade. I would not go pass 5k without UOA that includes TBN and TAN. HPL definitely can go pass 5K, but again, the key is grade retention. Ask Dave at @High Performance Lubricants what he would recommend.

2005 BMW M3 193,XXX miles. Not driven daily or very many miles per year. It does run pretty high oil temps in the Texas Summer.
HPL Premium Plus PCMO 5W50 or the Super Car 5W50?

I forgot, HPL BAS Racing oil also comes in 10W50 and 10W60 flavors. When I was talking to Dave, he said BAS is absolutely streetable oil.

FWIW. If this were mine, I would stop driving it and check the bottom end, unless you have a spare engine lying around. That engine is on borrowed time in my opinion. To fix it now is your cheapest/best option.

That's kinda the plan at present. It isn't being driven currently. Although I think the copper and lead would be at a reasonable level if this were a 5k mile UOA. Need to put more nickels in the piggy bank though. These M cars are expensive to own and maintain.
 
I used this oil once in my car that specs 10-60 and stopped. It has really low HTHS for a 60 weight. 3.7. That may be why it thinned out so much for you?

For comparison the Amsoil 10w-60 is 6.6. I use that now.

To update this thread-
The rod bearings were replaced a little while ago and it will get its first oil change soon. Going with the recommended by @edyvw Motul 8100 X-Power 10W60 and a Mann filter. I will post a UOA when the Motul has 5k miles.
