Careful when buying an air filter sight unseen - check that gasket! What about a locally sourced Wix (Napa Gold)?

RLI isn't designed for uber extended oil change intervals.

I understand what you mean about the TAN of 2.2 gain, but as it increases past your TBN ratio acidic components build up much quicker. Well at least this is the case in HDEO's with traditional base stocks. Who knows what goes on with this newfangled fancy RLI LOL.

Or the amsoil 0W20 would be neat in this application too. One of the folks here is on a fill of SSO 0W30 in his prius, but I think the 0W20 would be rocking in the application.

This is very interesting because of the number of samples. It does seem as though the RLI is generating less wear. More interesting is the comparison between the Dyson and Blackstone numbers. It's a very good illustration that they are not directly comparable, as has been said before.

However, the Blackstone numbers are fairly consistent among themselves, and I don't see the cost of the Dyson analysis ($60?) being justified for a car that does not have problems or special requirements. A Blackstone analysis every 10k or so is much easier to justify as a cost effective maintenance aid.

My humble opinion, of course.

For just a check up, sure. Blackstone is just fine. Now if you want to see how extended drains (in either time or mileage) or are trying to lock down issues, then Terry's tests with the Oxidation/Nitration/TAN and other data points are worth it. The same tests from Blackstone would be much more and not have an expert interpretation.

FWIW- OAI provides TBN, Oxidation and nitration at a pretty low cost as well. Adding a TAN to the mix costs a few bucks extra, but they have done a great job for me during fleet studies.
