This is my wife's friend's car.
She described the problem to me and it is as follows:
When she's driving around town or highway at a steady speed, the RPM would occasionally jump to about 5k RPM and is accompanied by a "whirling" sound (her description). After a short while the transmission would go to normal RPM again and the sound would stop as well and the car behaves normally after that.
I checked and there is no CEL or AT light on the dashboard. She says that the CVT fluid was changed about a month or two ago. I think the problem was there before CVT fluid change but I'm not sure. I checked the fluid level, with engine idling (I don't know if it's right procedure for this transmission), and the fluid level was on max hot line, it appeared fresh and smelled like a fresh fluid as well.
Any ideas what could it be? It may be the wrong fluid that the shop used, IDK, I'll ask her if the problem was there before the fluid change. I guess I should also ask if it was a flush or D&F.
Your help will be greatly appreciated.
