2004 Honda Civic 1.7L oil filter relocation

I want to relocate the oil filter for convenience and wondered if anyone installed a relocation kit on a Honda before.

I know what you mean... I had a 2003 and 4 and it is messy and so is my 07 Accord...The only other car that I haved owned that was like the was a 1999 Ford contour with a 4 about the same location...

I've changed those filters many times and not that bad. If I were u I would deal with alittle mess and don't trust a relocation kit that you have no idea how reliable it is and may cause. U future problems. My 2 cents

I agree with the relocation kit... I just think that they could have put the filter in a better spot...

Honda filter locations are specifically engineered to supply lubricating & rustproofing oil to the entire car underbody and chassis and then help seal your driveway and garage floor for weeks afterward when the excess oil drips everywhere. They make the absolute best use of your used oil. Relocating one would ruin all of the fun.

Daughters 01 Civic sits fairly low to begin with, I'm more comfortable putting it up on ramps to drain the oil anyway. Once up, no real biggie to slide back and get the filter after the pan drains.

Or if it's a real chore, buy a good extractor, and change the filter every other time you change the oil as per the Honda recommendation.

Don't think I'd trust a relocation kit, but that's just me.

There is actually a magnetic peice of steel that holds to the oil pan and deflects the oil and keeps the mess to a minimum. I have seen this on some of the online honda sites under maintinence parts...

I've found two forms of "risk" in these types of alterations. One is somewhat immediate in that you'll need to tighten clamps (if used) after a couple of warm up cycles. The other is more long term after you're well into taking it for granted. Most don't have the ability to maintain the discipline to check up on this sorta thing from time to time.

If you're like me, you're over complicating things constantly and perpetually. You eventually lose track of which alteration you need to tend to. It's okay if you're the driver. It's not always okay if you are not.

Forget the relocation kit. Use Synthetic oil & Filter for extended OCI's.

I would agree. I have an '04 same as OP. Granted, you have to put the Civic up on ramps but once there the filter is easy to get to.

I've seen worse...much worse. Other vehicle (2007 Suzuki Grand Vitara V6) is the absolute worst I've ever encountered.

I've got an 01 with 205k miles, one owner, so I've changed it a few times, lol.

Just crack it loose, let it drain a little bit, then remove it. Little mess that a rag can clean up.

Like stated, no way would I run a relocation kit.
