Relocating the Oil Filter

If I were to relocate my oil filter, is there a greater chance of the filter draining dry and damaging the engine? I've been looking at the Trasko Relocation kit. I would like the filter at a more accessible location.

Just locate the filter so that the threaded end is up. The anti-drain back valve should keep it full regardless of position, though. But if it is upside down, it will naturally stay full.

You can still run into troubles with the filter draining forward. The lines will also drain and give you startup noise. I had to put expensive check valves on my setup to get it to stay full. Ideally the filter will be mounted at or below its original height. I mounted mine up on my fender where my airbox used to be. It was even with the valve cover (maybe a little higher). It just drained forward ..and the lines emptied. Just a little clacking for a few seconds ..but it annoyed me. Now mine weren't mounted vertical ..but I think you get a siphon action until air backs up the line enough to break it

Gary, would you mind giving me information on the check valve you used?

I used some fairly expensive Corbaco ball checks with Vicon ball (and seat I think). Mine were stainless steel ..but they are available in brass. They have, IIRC, a 1 psi breaking pressure.

Conbraco valves I think that they are available from McMaster Carr ..but, IIRC, only in brass. They are not cheap compared to other flapper type checks of like pipe size.

I think I may be able to find the part# for you. I have a spare sitting somewhere. Naturally I just cleaned the offic/computer room up ..where various pieces of equipment and parts were hanging out for reference (yes, I know exactly where everything is ..it's where I put it down).
