2004 Nissan frontier - 4 cyl ka24de engine - 121K miles

Runs flawless and clean as a whistle under the valve covers. Has had 3K oci at local Walmart (dino oil QSGB 5W30 is what they use) City driving in Dallas is 99% of driving style. Drive about 12K yearly.

I pay only 20.00 for oil and filter change but the every 3 months is getting to be a pain and looking for less maintenance and still maintain clean engine.

Is it ok to go from dino to synthetic after being on dino for so long?
Is it ok to extend to 6 month/6K oci on Quaker State dino in city

Thoughts please..

Stay with what you have. You said it all in your post. No reason to change. QSGB is the best "dino" oil. out there.

Recall that all dino these days are grpII and better; If group III dino is "synthetic" what is group II?

ALll my jibberish aside, for fun look at what I'm running in the 14 Rogue in my signature(QR25DE). I did have to add 1/3 qt 5w20 in to get the viscosity down to were the engine and ecu were happy.

For $80.00 a year with good results why change? Is it any less onerous than having your hair cut every 4-6 weeks; going shopping with your wife; Birthdays; cutting the lawn...yada, yada, yada. You get the picture. Think of it as a little downtime for yourself. "Hey honey I'm going out to get the oil changed, see you in a bit". After the change treat yourself to a beer at your local pub. Your little secret.

Seriously, I would bump your interval up to every 4 or 5 months with the same deal. Nothing drastic given the city driving in the Texas heat.

Great candidate for Mobil1 Extended Performance oil changed at 1 year (12k miles) and a superior Fram Ultra oil filter, all from walmart. They could put it in for you too. You would spend less than the $80 per year you are spending now. Just keep the oil level between the add and full lines as you go that long.

oil_film_movies... yes I was at Walmart yesterday and really liked that idea after seeing the Extended Performance option...

I just didn't know if it would me an issue going from dino to synthetic at 13 years old and 121k miles. Little truck uses no oil at all.

No problem going to synthetic. You could start using Mobil1 High Mileage full synthetic if you wanted to treat the seal polymers so they don't get brittle with age, not a bad idea, but with that oil I wouldn't go more than 10,000 miles, so less than a year for you if you use that High Mileage oil.
