My son just got a 2004 blazer in nice condition with 200,000 miles seems to run fine i will be using 5w30 pennzoil and purolator filter
What does everyone think i should use in the front and rear diffrential and the automatic 4 speed transmission i want to change all the fluids also what should we watch out for?

The dex cool is original! it is soooooo sludged up does everyone think i should use prestone super flush or am i asking for trouble?
i think i will use the green prestone i use at the shop or the go-5 what is everyones opinion?

200 000 miles?! Original dexcool?! WOW! I think the maintenance is 5 years or 140 000 miles. That is maybe one of the reason why it sludged up.

I good radiator and heater flush won't hurt... thats what I would do.

For filling it, I would use the dex cool from gm + 3 sealant pellets.

Im not worried about the engine gaskets im more worried about the rest of the truck
engines are our business but transmissions and the rest of the drive train are not

Personally, my last 3 gm trucks, each has had to have the L intake manifold gasket replaced. i would plan on doing the gasket, do a rince of the cooling system and go to napa and get the zerex gl-5 as the replacment. Use whatever you want in the diffs, theres nothing special about them and anything you use will keep them in good shape. With that many miles, i would drain both diffs and replace the fluid with the cheapest 80w90 you can buy, 10 bucks a gallon at walmart, and run it 5 or 10K as a flush. Many people dont change those fluids. I have been running M1 75w90 in my 01 blazer that has 187k miles on it now. I used the M1 because dino valvoline 80w90 did not have enough LS fluid in it and it made my rear diff chatter. If you have a Limited Slip rear diff, the M1 should not require any extra additive. Jersey gets pretty cold so i personally would run a synthetic 75w90 in the diffs. The transmission calls for dex3. I have been running dex 6 in my transmission for a good while now because it is a synthetic and is backward compatible with dex 3. That said, you could save some money and just get reg dex3 it will work fine. The only thing you really need to watch for is the transfer case. Do not run dex 3 in it if it has auto 4x4. Get the GM AutoTrak 2 from a dealership. It is going to run you about six quarts and you should use it. Do your self a favor and change your fuel filter becuase the fuel pumps are known to go out and they are about 600 dollars to replace. The cheaper 300 dollar ones barely create enough fuel pressue. Hope it ends up being a good truck for you. Go to "blazer forums and you will get a lot of great info over there. http://www.blazerforum.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41

This is why i do NOT use ANY "Extended Life" Antifreeze in ANYTHING. ALWAYS -GREEN- Ethylene Glycol for me.

I have a gallon of unused Prestone Extended Life. Im NEVER going to use it. Ill sell it for $5, or give it to my mechanic.. and he believes in all Green too.

If it is the 4.3l I really like chevron green, the gaskets do fail on it and I would not use dex-cool again.

I have heard from looong ago that GREEN is the best...

.. unless you have a brand new car or something, in which event you dont need to be adding Coolant.

My Blazer saw its first dex-cool flush at 76k. now it needs a new intake gasket...go figure
