Hey everyone,

I have a svt focus with about 60k miles on it. I was just wondering what would be a good oil choice for it. It only had one owner before me and only had M1 for oil. I've been running Schaeffer 9000 5w-30 in it with a Napa Gold filter. I wanted to try some Redline or Motul in the future. Any recommendations would be great.

Thanks,

Zach

I put 90k on my SVT using M1. No problems or complaints. I switched to QSUD for the first time with my current fill. Engine feels very smooth. I'd rec giving it a try.

Doesn't the Focus spec 5w20?

My suggestion would be M1 0w20 or PP in the same weight.

I love the csvt. My buddy and I did a 3L hybrid build back on high school on his. What a fun car that thing was. Didn't the csvt's have oil issues with hard track use? I think they had oil starvation issues?

Keep the ideas coming guys

In the svt supplement it states 5w30 for the motor oil. I believe all other foci call for 5w20. I have been told the oil weight can have an effect on the vct solenoid also.

Yeah the 2.5L CSVT has issues with the relatively flat oil pan allowing oil to shift away from the pick up under hard cornering.

The Focus SVT shouldn't have any such issues.

Yeah, a lot of stock engines got toasted bearings and wound up like your buddies- with a 3L and upgraded oil pan. I keep my oil level right at full or slightly over and haven't had any problems(knocks on wood).

Every car has its quirks.

I'd keep doing what you're doing. Schaeffer's 9000 is good stuff. Unless you are tracking that car repeatedly, Motul and Redline are likely overkill (though they won't hurt).

SVT is a different animal, called for 5w-30.
