Little bit ago at 186K miles when I got the truck, one of the timing chain tensioners was busted and the chain was beating the timing cover up. 3000 mile oil changes since and never really looked for shavings until the last 3 changes and sure enough I found some. Non ferrous and appeared to be aluminum. One thought was residual from the cover, because who knows for how long it was driven like that before I got it. Sent out a UOA and everything seems good! These engines have aluminum rod bearings as well so nice and low wear showing in this report. Copper was a little high though.

Also to note, this is Pennzoil Platinum High Mileage not Pennzoil Conventional high mileage.

I'll get you guy's take on this...

Maybe, I don't trust anything Blackstone says IRT fuel. Their method of determining fuel contamination is not reliable.

The regular PP 5W30 unless I am mistaken starts out at a barely 30. I don't know if the big shavings would show up on a uoa.

I agree the big ones wouldn't, but if I had a issue where big ones were being produced, id have loss of oil pressure and a lot of noise. Oil PSI is excellent. (20 hot idle and around 70 @3K.) Has a little lifter noise but its a 200K engine.

What are your environmental conditions? Driving habits? That is a great UOA for 200,000 miles. May want to increase viscosity, but depends where you are located. Plethora of factors. The owner's manual calls for 5W20.

There are many various oils. But, Schaeffer's Oil has stellar UOA in pickup trucks. Speaking in general terms. Try Schaeffer's or Redline. I doubt they would shear, unless there is an internal problem.

Or keep using Pennzoil. Try Ultra!

As far as environment, I am in the mojave desert. This run saw 100*F and as low as 35*F and everything in between in about 2 months. Driving habits.... Most of the time normal.. I tend to have a heavy foot on it sometimes though.

Kind of Surprised it did, also - Pennz Platinum High Mileage is typically "highly regarded".

First, welcome to the site!

The Si is very high for 3k miles. How long ago was the work done? Is this silicone curing, or an intake leak? Make sure you can attest to which it is. I believe that you said a few OCIs have taken place, so residual should be dropping if that's all it is. But 31ppm of Si is way high if this isn't sealer. The Cu may be a particle streak that will drop back down. Just keep an eye on it over the next few UOAs.

Are you going to keep changing at 3k and if so why not run a premium conventional … or the high mileage version of that … Pennzoil YB and Mobil Super were $10/jug at AZ last week …

Hate to see that the high mileage formula has went to the lower calcium, higher magnesium formulation. LSPI is going to be prevented even if the engine doesn't suffer from it.

OK to reply to the comments ---

I think the high Si is because I took the sample from the filter as I was loosening it. I may have got some dirt in because it is in a really strange position. I forgot to get it on the drain.

Also, no al in the filters. I think i found a single spec before. That's it.

One thing about the SN + version, the engine seemed quieter, but the oil darkened quicker than the old version. Not that that is indicative of a issue. The shear is disappointing. Maybe I can find the SN version and retest and see if it sheared.

What is it indicative of then?

And again, with the way Blackstone measures fuel you really have no idea whether that viscosity loss is due to shear or not.

Yes it sheared many 10W30's do dispite what many claim ISLAC 10W30's shear.
