2002 Protege under valve cover 225k miles

Looks pretty good, my brother had an '01 with the 1.6 that i then took possession of briefly(car deal). I sold it to a coworker with 242K on it and she just kept purring along, great little commuter. Unfortunately it was totaled at around 255K.
 
Well, I got the t-belt installed and timing set first try on my Protege5 and it runs good. I used a rebuilt masterpro water pump from o'reilly (which I checked carefully before installing) and no problems so far. The terrible startup rattle is gone! It must have been one of the tensioners on the timing belt about to give out. I only broke three bolts! (Undershield tray, lower timing cover, power steering tensioner)

For sure. Mine is a manual trans and turns about 3400 at 70mph in 5th. Makes for good highway passing & fast driving but the fuel economy could be better.
