Do I go with QS Ultimate Durability or Kendall GT1 syn blend with liquid titanium? Both are available cheap around here. Using a purolator classic with it and the car will see 80% highway mileage.

Second that. At 5-6k Pennzoil conventional, Quaker State conventional, Motorcraft 5000, or Valvoline conventional will serve you well for that OCI.

With that said, my 04 Neon ran really smooth and got great mileage on PP for 4k OCI's, until I realized I was wasting money at that interval.

I would just run a conventional in it, especially for that interval. Good choice on the Puro classic. These engines are really easy on oil, so there is no need to spend a lot.

I had a 95, ran it to 182k before I sold it. I was running 3k intervals on GTX (before I found BITOG) and the engine was spotless inside when I had to pull the head at 140k due to a bad bearing on the timing belt tensioner pulley.

Actually here I can get 5 quarts of Kendall for 30 cents cheaper than QS UD.

I only wanted a semi syn or group III syn since the girl who owns this car likes to really beat on it. It has 140k on it right now, but with a recent cylinder head overhaul and new timing belt.

I totally missed that you were talking about a Syn Blend. If it can use a 5w20, Motorcraft FTW

Got a 5 quart jug of Quaker State Ultimate Durability 10w30 and a Motorcraft filter for 22 bucks. Not bad. It had Valvoline MaxLife and a Supertech filter on it. I cut the supertech open and for an E core, it seems fine.....no holes or loose end caps.

I have a 95 neon, 180,000 miles on it. For the record, factory oil fill is mobil oil* those mopar quarts are re badged mobil 1*
Ive used so many differnt oils, and found..valvoline full synthetic to give my neon the smoothest quietest running engine.
It dosnt seem to like Ac delco filters or the orange oil fram filter. Many times, ive put a fram orange on, and the oil light lights up. never with any other filter has it done this. I do LOTS of city driving. The ecdelco, hard to explain, neon just dosnt seem so alive with it.
Purolators are awesome actually. Yuo can get a mopar filter, bu at $9 and up for one, i still get valve chatter. Right now, i am using a NAPA race car filter for my neon, its a black can with NASCAR printed on it..minimal valve chatter.

I've run 0w-10 (original formula) in my son's 96 NEON. It ran fine ..no ticks or clicks. The only thing it did was consume it ..which it did pretty much any oil until we tweaked the PCV plumbing a bit. There's no reason I can see for this engine to be limited to any 10w30 or even a 5w30. 20 weights should work well with it. It's got rollerized cam followers and a timing belt. Not much to wear as long as you keep the bearings apart. About the only thing I find (somewhat) peculiar (for me) is that they seem to keep the coolant temp in a pretty tight range. That's if the programmed ON:OFF cycles are any indication. The duty cycle is brief and frequent on my son's.

This motor was pretty clean when we did the head overhaul and timing belt on it in February. Eventhough she suffered from the Jiffy Lube's dishonest policies for three oil changes without touching the Microgard oil filter.

Around here there is more selection with a 30weight oil vs the 20 weights, so its all good.
