2002 Maxima == Power Seat

Hi All,

My driver side power seat has given up the ghost. Started making a thunk sound then a few crunches while moving backward. This is a known TSB:

however I am out of warranty, so have decided to just replace the motor on my own. The problem is the seat died in the exit (far back) position and I cannot get to the rear bolts.

Does anyone know of a way to progress the seat with or without the motor so I can get to the bolts?

Nissan claims I may be able to get it to move by "whacking" it lightly. I tried tapping with the handle of a screw driver but have gotten know movement.

this is why I try to never buy a car with power seats - it scares me!!!

If you could see where the gears from the motor engage the gears on the track, you might be able to force them to move bit by bit... unless there is some locking mechanism besides the motor itself.

The key is to engage the gears yourself anf force them to move a bit...

I tried tapping on the motor but it will not budge. The motor turns a two worm gears on either side of the seat. To disconnect, there is a 10mm nut under the seat

**To disconnect the motor from the worm gears there are 2 10mm bolts under the seat.

For those in the same boat...an update:

Got it!

In the PDF for the TSB (figure 4) there is a picture of the "Seat track tab mounting bolt".

You can reach up from the rear of the seat and take both of these out which will allow the seat to slide front and back. After removing the rear bolts, be sure to replace those two 10mm bolts exactly as you found it. This will be important after seat removal to line up the new part and the old.
