2002 crv torque converter lockup

I recently bought a 2002 crv with 179k from a friend of mine and realized that the torque converter did not seem to lock up positively. It only attempts to under light load between around 35-45mph and unlocks rapidly. It does not even try when cruising at highway speeds. Fluid and external filter are both new but past looking at solenoids is there anything else I should consider before looking at new torque converters?

The ECU relies on the coolant temp sensor for TC lockup so if it either isn't at the correct temp or reading incorrectly then you the TC will have issues. Check thermostat and the coolant temp sensor, my preference is OEM for replacement parts.

It’s running at 184f and I believe it has a thermostat that opens in the 170s

Not familiar with it, but I would think that, with low coolant temp, it would not lock up at all.

How does it detect throttle opening? I am wondering if it is quick to unlock because it thinks more throttle is being commanded than what is.

How well does this drive? maybe it is down on power, and the trans is fine?

Apart from the weak torque converter it drives great. All the shifts are positive but compared to other cars it feels like it holds onto gears just a little bit longer maybe. I’ll look into the throttle and see what I can find.
