2002 camry engine oil overfilled

Hi,

I had my 2002 Camry oil changed recently and ran 1200km. When I checked the dip stick it was around 1.5 inches above the max. I immediately went back to the mechanic and had them drain it.

I'm just wondering what problems this might cause to my engine since I ran 1200km with it mostly highway. I didn't notice any engine shaking, smell of burn oil etc.

Probably nothing happened, if the engine is running fine I wouldn't worry about it.

Notice any bubbles on the dipstick when it was overfilled and you checked it? Bubbles are the telltale sign of oil aeration foaming that overfilling causes as the crankshaft hits the oil surface in the windage tray. .... If bubbles, then some minor excessive engine wear and/or over-temperature around the rings occurs, so some unseen engine damage. Maybe nothing major.

When we PCS'd back to the states 2 years ago I had Jiffy Lube change my oil because we didn't have a place yet. I noticed some bubbles on the dipstick and that the level was above high. Took it back and they documented that it was overfilled by a quart then they drained and refilled. I feel that they work so fast in those quick lube places that they don't let it drain completley, then they fill it to manufacturer capacity ultimately overfilling.

Anyway, nothing happened but it did have me worried.

An overfill won't cause any problems unless the crankshaft is hitting the oil. No way of telling if the crankshaft is hitting the oil unless you have a clear plastic oil pan and can see thru it.

.... or if you simply see bubbles on the dipstick ... loss of some lubrication results

They overfilled my Avalon by at least a quart but I did not see any bubbles or froth on the dipstick after driving it for 10 minutes so I am doing nothing.

I wouldn't worry about it. When I was 16 I was at my friends house hanging out with him while he changed his oil. He poured a whole case of 12 quarts into his engine and drove around like that for two days. It was a 1988 VW GTI with the 2.0 engine. I remember going for a ride with him after and we got on the highway and he opened it up. I looked in the mirror and it looked like the whole world was on fire behind us because of all the smoke lol. We had no idea what was wrong with the car. When his dad found out two days later he drained it and the car ran fine after that.
