2001 Saab 9-3 MTF

[Oversteer]

I was wondering what kind of fluid to use in the manual transmission on an 01 Saab 9-3. The manual says it's a "lifetime" fluid, but it's already got a lot of miles on it and needs a change. I'm reading that it's either Saab Synthetic Manual Transmission Fluid or MTF 0063. These fluids are supposedly incompatible with each other, so I'd just like to know which one to use. The car shifts fine so I'd like to add the same kind of fluid that comes out. Any help? Thanks.

GMs literature identifies 0063 as 75w85 GL4.

That GM stuff above is the factory fluid. Redline also has a 75w-85 synthetic. Japanese OEMs use 75w-85 in a lot of cars; you can pick up Nissan HQ 75w-85 online for under 10 bucks, but I don't think it's synthetic.

Factory fill is unknown. Recommendations get superseded all the time. Are you sure that it was never changed?

UOA the old fluid. Toss in any dealer or aftermarket GL4 manual trans lube while waiting for the UOA results and go from there.
