I have a 2001 Dodge Dakota with the 4.7 (smaller V8) engine. When I first start it, the oil pressure is on the high side of the normal range on the gauge. When it gets warmed up to operating temperature, the pressure goes down to the bottom line of the normal range. The dealer (way back when) said that the pressure at the engine was good and the gauge wasn't the best on this model. When it idles at a light with the truck in drive is when the pressure seems low. While driving, it's within the normal range. It idles (in gear) at about 550 RPMs. Any opinions or information from those who have been on this forum a while or who have had experience with this engine?
