2000 Jeep GC 4.0L 4x4 routine maintenance

Gonna pick up a use 2000 Jeep GC 4.0L 4x4 175k miles from dealer. first thing I want to do when I get is full tune up. Here what I have few option in mind. I choose the 4.0L cause I know these engine is bullet proof when u take care of it. I have a 98 jeep GC 4.0L before.

Engine oil/filter : Mobil 1 High Miles 10w30 / Motorcraft FL-1A ( I use it on my other 4.0l jeep, dont know if it can be use for 2000 model ) these engine require extra ZDDP

automatic : ATF 4+

Front diff and rear diff : Redline, but dont know what weight I need or what kind of front and diff I have.

Plug : factory OEM plug.

any opinion are welcome ^^

Save your money on the redline unless those diffs require it or you plan to be working this thing seriously hard.

The 2000 Jeep 4.0L had many problems with the heads cracking under the valvecover which dumps coolant into the oil then wipes out the bearings.

Make sure to pull the oil fill cap and look for soup.

The FL-1A will fit your 4.0, as far as I know they used the same filter base until the end of production.

As far as your Diffs go the most likely setup is a Rear Dana 35 with a Dana 30 in the front.

If you have the part time "SELEC_TRAC" NP242 t-case 4wd system they require 75w-90 gear oil and ATF in the t-case.

If you have the full time "Quadradrive" NP247 t-case they require 75w-140 GL-5 synthetic with limited slip additive.
a special NV247 fluid is required for the transfer case. This fluid is available form the dealer but is essentially Mobilfluid 424

I have been happy with Amsoil 75-140 in my Quadradrive WJ, so I think Redline or any quality synthetic is worth the expense

If there are no leaks, I would run Quaker State conventional 10W30 and call it a day. These engines do not need "extra" ZDDP. In fact, yours has spent most of it's life with SM oil.

ATF+4 is spot on for the transmission.

Use the fluid for whatever t-case you have.

The axles: X2 with JRed - Redline is a waste in this application. Walmart Supertech 80W90 will work fine for the rest of it's life.

The SelecTrac will have a 2wd option as well as 4 high full time, 4 high part time, neural and 4 low. Most 4.0's came with this system.
The Quadradrive system will be full time with high range low range and neutral. The system also comes with LSD's front and rear.
It will also say on the shifter bezel.

you nail it, I have the selectrac

so I be using 75w-90 gear oil for the rear diff ? ( with mopar friction mod or no ? ) and ATF in the t-case ( what kind of ATF in t case ? what do you recomment ?

ATF 4 in the transfer case. You dont need any friction modifier. You have open differentials.

I agree, only the Quadradrive comes with lsd's so you will fine with just gear oil.

Go to Amsoils website, and you can print off a spec sheet for your specific year Jeep Grand Cherokee with their recommendations for fluids. I would use their Fluid weight and fill amount recommendations with Mobil 1 if it was me. And do look at least at the oil fill cap for condensation or milky gooo, because late 99, most all 2000 and early 2001 Jeep 4.0s did have cylinder head cracking problems between number 3 qnd 4 exhaust ports on the top if cylinder hear which happens to be exactly below the Oil Cap. Low oil pressu

thanks, oil pressure is good way more then 40+ PSI, and oil cap look clean. just other problem, read my other story.
