the coolant has never been changed or even added to so I will be changing it along with all the hoses while I'm doing the timing belt and pump.
Can anyone recommend a brand and type for my car?
BTW after ten years and 120,000 miles the coolant is still bright green and at the full mark! surprised... :)

I checked and studied and then just used Honda Type 2 coolant from dealer. It is premixed. It is also blue in color, older coolant was green.

I didn't use a gallon of it. I could not open engine block drain.

First coolant change (on a 2001 Honda EX) is at 10 years or 120,000 miles. Next change is supposed to be after 60,000 miles.

Had the timing belt/water pump done on our 01. Went with the Honda Type 2. Not a fan of 50/50 coolant but with the tb/wp service you should get the majority of the old out and be able to fill with TYPE 2 premix to the correct concentration. I'd stay with the Honda coolant.

I would also stay with the Honda coolant. I agree that most coolant is replaced during the T-belt / WP swap.

That generation Civic (1996-2000) is probably the most reliable of all Civics.

good to know that the coolant may still be in desent shape after all these years.
So Type 2 at the dealer. How much will that set me back?
thanks!
