Ck when you turn for the knocking intermediate steering shaft. There is an updated shaft available. (May just be 1/2 tons?)

Also the gage clusters are prone to have problems. Other than that, pretty solid trucks.

Than keep the Cummins, nothing GM offers will out tow that.

Want to bring the family? Trade your truck in for one of those 4 door extended cab ones.

You need to find a guy who can tune in your area, or get HP Tuners. Easy Peasy. Especially 00 and 01. Easy OBDII GM stuff.

That is all of them. I just put a zerke in my steering shaft. I grease it from time to time. The guage cluster has not failed. I understand that is 50-50-90.

yeah, I had that steering shaft knock on my DMax a few years ago. I have heard that about the clusters as well. That won't be an issue for me. I'll just replace it when it needs replacing.

There is a guy about an hour from me that does the EFI tuning stuff, but if I can just buy a tuner and do stuff myself, that'll be the route I take.

Nah, too much other stuff to bring along and reasons for considering the Sub. Living in Southern CA makes driving a 6 speed a real PITA...I am over it. I want the capability to pull my TT, but also the comfort and a little more ease of operation in my DD. I no longer care about making it up the Grapevine at 60 mph pulling a load. I just care about getting there, period. If it is at 35 mph in 2nd gear, great. I got there without having to shift 1800 times between my home and the campsite. Not to mention the comfort of the Dodge seats SUCK!!

Good discussion guys. Thanks for the input!

I think GT5 is the code for 4.10 gears. That comes from the manual for a 2001 Hypertech programmer.

Perfect...the one I test drove tonight has the GT5 code. It drove really well and was in excellent condition, so I gave the guy a deposit! I am really hoping this one works out. It's a 2002 with the 6.0, loaded to the rim, and was well taken care of. It has 150k miles. The only issue is that the ABS and Brake light come on intermittently, so he is going to take it to the shop tomorrow and find out what the issue is.

I feel pretty good about it otherwise. If you guys have any input, fire away. Any ideas on the ABS light? I am going to search around and see what I find if there are any commonalities.

Little update-the ABS light and Brake light are just the wheel sensors. I am going to redo the brakes anyways, so those will get replaced when I do that. Other than that, the truck checks out perfect. It will need a my special OCD touch of cleaning

but it is in need of nothing really. I'll keep you guys posted if ya wanna know.

Awesome, it should do fine. It will work on the bigger hills and sometimes it is easier to leave it in 3rd when you are heavy, but I have been really happy with my 6.0/4L80E/4.10 combo. Sure it is thirsty, but you are towing.

It is leaps and bound above my old TBI 454/TH400/4.10 and I towed with that all over the Pacnorwest and Rockies for 6 years.

Well, sigh, I feel a little dumb. I called the guy yesterday to set up a time to come pick it up on Saturday. He tells me some guy to look at it yesterday and gave him cash on the spot!!!! At least he is nice enough to refund my deposit though he didn't keep his end of the deal. Isn't that the point of a deposit in the first place?

I thought the SS had the Aluminum block? The rest of the trucks have the iron block with aluminum heads.

The VHO Sierra (RPO code B4V) was sort of an SS in disguise, but without the AWD. It, the SS, and the Escalade used the LQ9.

So if I were to one day look at a 2000/2001 (pre-redesign) Escalade it would have the LQ9 6.0 but without AWD, and be a "sleeper" SS? And VHO is Very High Output, is it not?

VHO = Vortec High Output. A 2000 Escalade would actually have the old 5.7L, but starting in 2002 the 6.0 was available. I'm not sure though if you could get it without AWD in the Escalade.

The Sierras are good sleepers because aside from a small badge and 20" wheels, they are practically indistinguishable from any other Sierra SLE or SLT 1500. They are pretty quick trucks though and are great for towing.

That sucks! He should have honored the deposit and held the truck for you.
