2 Redline samples, 2 different Labs

Running the same sample to multiple labs makes sense. Should be done several times with the same oil batch to see consistency between labs and between samples. Go with the labs do best. Looks (from the link above) like lab I have b een using, ANA, is not the best.
 
I'd say that 75% of the oil analyses on this site are from Blackstone Labs. So the results in terms of wear rates are very comparable. It's the lab to lab variation you have to watch.

Then again, if we assume all the labs are doing a fairly good job, then the real world variability may exist even for the same lab. In other words, even though state of the art equipment has the capability to produce a certain amount of precision, doesn't automatically imply that any particular lab, or all labs, will employ the protocols necessary to achieve that precision 100% of the time. To apply an analogy, GM, Ford and Chrysler may be able to design excellent engines, they just have a hard time producing millions of them with zero flaws.

And we haven't even considered the sampling variations by the end user.

I've seen excellent repeatability using Oil Analyzers Lab. However I am careful to take samples in exactly the same way every time and I'm the only one driving the vehicle in most cases.

You forgot the variability of the ASTM tests themselves, which can vary by +/- 10% on something like TBN.

Blackstone seems to be 5%-10% low on additive treat levels (I know what the Amsoil stuff is supposed to be formulated at in some cases). So it's a good bet they are also 5%-10% low on wear metals. Of course Fe levels would be most affected by this....

I think we're in violent agreement this time.
