Hi, I have a 1985 Yamaha YT125 Tri-Moto 3-wheeler (125cc same engine as a DT125 Enduro) I am almost out of the Yammalube 2S I got with it, all I can find in my area at stores is TC-W3 marine oil. My question is, is the marine oil going to cause any problems or engine damage? The service manual just says "Use Yammalube air cooled 2-Cycle Oil"

I'd use the 2-cycle oil with the boat picture on it. Especially with a 30 year old thing that won't care what it gets.

Use something suitable for an air cooled motorcycle. I would use a synthetic at the ratio recommended by the oil manufacturer.

my brother got a brand new yt125 in 1980 (i think it was that 1st year) so i know the model well.
i would not use yamalube 2S thats for injection systems i would run 2R.

we ran the snot out of that bike. i think in '82 he got a DG pipe for it. really helped the power on it.

You will have better results with an oil designed for that engine. It's generally a good idea to avoid TCW-III oils in air cooled engines.

However, plenty of people do it. And many report no significant engine failures. Still, "IF" I had to run TCW-III in an air cooled engine, I'd mix it at 24 to 1, to ensure adequate lubrication.

I'd agree that's probably better than an outboard oil. Ideally it would be a 2 cycle oil designed for the hotter temperatures of an air cooled engine.

compared to the paper can Castrol (green) 2cycle oil we ran through my brothers, i'm sure just about any oil today would be better.

oh let me think for a sec....we might have used a BR8EV plug in that motor. dang its been a LONG time.

it could handle up to about 6+ inches of snow with no issues.
use a 20ft rope off the chrome bar on the back and pull a plastic sled. cant endanger the guy on the sled, but the goal is to dump them into a drift.

Thanks for responses everybody, but at the moment I'm concerned about oil since I blew the top end of the engine last night
