1st impressions of eighth gen Accord

I'm with ya.
On unfamiliar roads, especially at night, I'm not usually going to try to lead the pack.
I also try to stay out of the way.
The faster drivers either know what they're going to encounter or are foolish.
I'm not inclined to fall in behind them in case they're the latter rather than the former.

At night, I'd rather lead the pack, assuming minimal to no oncoming traffic. Then again, that's just because I can out-light most cars once I hit the high beams, so even on unfamiliar roads, I can see well enough to safely maintain a pretty good pace.

I'll follow you at a couple hundred feet or so and you can hit the box, truck tire or deer and clear the road for me.
You can also clean out any speed traps for me.

I had an instance (during the day no less) where I was 2 cars in front of a friend. We were on a rural road and I flushed a deer out from the side of the road. It promptly ran into the side of the car following me and died.

So who knows whether leading or following is better re:deer anyway.

I typically like to have someone in front of me on the highway though, let them do the work.

It's been a scarce deer season here, so I've not come close to hitting one this fall.
Most falls, I will come very close at least a couple of times, although I've been fortunate in that I've never hit one.
Are they kamikazes, or merely suicidal?
I've also seen few dead deer alongside the areas I've driven through.
WRT letting somebody else do the work, I agree.

That. I used to drive on dark 2-lanes all the time, so I installed a high-intensity light behind the grille in my Caddy.

And by "high intensity light", I mean "aircraft landing light."

32.7 mpg in the 295 miles I've driven since filling up after the "full tank" at delivery, on which I did ~440 miles.
I've not driven the car hard yet, and I don't think I've yet exceeded 3000 revs or gotten into VTEC mode.
The car was driven pretty gently on my 25 miles each way commute.
Still, I thought this seemed pretty good.
I've always driven a new engine very gently for the first 1K, and have always had long-lived engines with nil oil consumption.
The MM still shows 100% at ~750 miles total.
I'll drive the car ~500 miles over the next few days (trip), so we'll see what fuel consumption is on this tank as well as whether the MM shows a lower percentage for oil life remaining.
I am very pleased with this Accord.

I refilled the car after 469 miles and it took 13.6 gallons, which rounded to the nearest tenth is 34.5 mpg.
I was really starting to distrust the fuel gauge, but it appears not to have been lying.
MM now shows oil life at 90%.
A very nice car to drive on a trip, with a firm but comfortable ride, quiet interior and nice, firm seats.
I am very pleased to have bought this car.
It takes traditional Honda virtues to a level above the previous Accord generations.
I also drove a seventh gen car some at my destination, and it felt tiny compared to the eighth gen car.
The seventh gen is plenty roomy, so some of the bulk of the eighth gen is probably just excess.
No sacrifice in fuel econonmy, though.
