Finally got around to R&R the front brakes on my moms '99 Chevy Monte Carlo today and was surprized to find the pads with about an 1/8 inch material left, (inner) with 86,000 miles, a bit rusty but still solid, rotors too. I was sure I'd find them almost down to nothing.

She bought the car in 2003 with 44,000mi and the brakes didn't look fresh then so these must be the original pads, plus they are noticeably better built then the replacement AC-Delco Duralast pads.

Could have got 90,000 miles out of them no problem.

Just changed the rear shoes on my import,, factory original at 143,000 ,,They still had lining on em---Even still have the orig front rotors on it with a couple pad replacements up to the mileage now ,,which is 146,000

I did the left side today, they were down to about 1/16 inch. Weird how one side is so much better, caliper and all moved freely, so dragging didn't seem to be an issue.

However, the new full cast rotors are about 1/4 thicker at the hub and the lug nuts don't engage the threads as fully as on the original composite rotors, may have to start another post about that.
