1999 Jeep Cherokee XJ $2500

Honestly, the only RWD XJ I ever saw was on Staten Island. It was a Cherokee Freedom, as I recall.
Sis had two of them, an '88 Pioneer (red, 2-door) and a '99 Sport (black 4-door).
Both had the NP242 transfer case...not CommandTrac but the other one with "full time" and "part time".
Both sold fast. The '88 was snagged by a guy from Queens in 2005. The '99 went to a neighbor in 2012.
I hope your example isn't "too old".
I suggest placing your vehicle in as many Jeep fora as you can find.

Where do you live? Looks like Bensonhurst.

I live in the midwood section of Brooklyn. There is no transfer case as this is rwd from birth (lol) it is the aw4 transmission (which is amazing). It does not perform well in the snow because it’s only rwd.

Needs really good snow tires and weight. Guessing open diff out back. And no ABS either? am guessing there.

The Jeep came with abs from the factory but it never worked correctly from the day I bought it. Basically, the abs would kick on by every red light. Multiple mechanic’s couldn’t seen to solve it, I pulled the abs pump fuse and that solves my abs issues. I’m not sure what open diff back means. The build sheet is below:

You have the same rear open diff my '98 had. The Aisin transmission on these is one of the better ones around. Hope the rust monster hasn't attacked like it did my '98 XJ, that's why I sold it.

open diff = open differential. A differential is used to accommodate the fact that, in a turn, the wheels on the inside of the turn have to turn less distance than the wheels on the outside. The differential is used, as opposed to a solid shaft running between the tires, so that inner and outer tires can turn at different rates, with no tire scrubbing.

Also known as the "one wheel peel" by those who like to stomp on the gas pedal and make the tire(s) spin. An open differential, in a situation where there is loss of traction, annoyingly "sends" all the power to the wheel with the least traction, where it then proceeds to get stuck. [It's more complicated than that, but anyone who has been stuck, will use vastly less kind words to describe the operation.]

DGB All 4-Speed Automatic Transmissions
DGSS 4-Speed Automatic AW4 Transmission
That's an odd option... not only does it have a 4 speed transmission, but it's got all the 4 speed automatics. Or is this to allow it to use all 4 gears?

I realize these get built for different markets and some of the things we take for granted as "standard equipment" might not be in some areas of the world, but I always get a kick out of listing "everything" the car has. Although to be fair, with service as a subscription coming soon, perhaps cars will get sold sans wheels or ability to move or similar.

2wd is an issue for many who would buy it.

the xj is probably one of the best vehicles ever made, i miss my 99 classic RIP.

Yeah, it's a big questionable for me--I feel fine in FWD in most snowstorms, but RWD? I would drive my pickup in RWD until it got really dicey, then flip it on. Most of the time, not a problem, but that truck could get stuck on wet grass (in RWD).

It's the ABS that would really hold me back. I haven't had a non-ABS vehicle for 20 years, and while I don't use ABS every year, it has engaged many a winter (unfortunately a time or two was while saving my bacon) (and yes, that was with snow tires too, any fool can outdrive their tires).

Your open diff.
The ring/pinion wear pattern...absolutely perfect.
I replaced the VC gasket (AND 19 bolt seals) and the PCV hoses and elbows in her '99. I sure helped sell that one.
The red one is Sis' '88. I called it "The Perfect Girl's Car".

Wish I had the time for another project. That's in really good shape for what they go for up here in upstate NY.
I could have that converted to 4WD in a weekend! I have pretty much everything to do so in my garage.
Oh come on man, he lowered the price to $2k and it’s in your neighborhood. Park it til you get the chance to swap it!

How are the rocker panels, bottom of the doors, underneath, etc? Jeeps of this era didn't deal well with the salt but maybe because this is 2wd it didn't see too much snow/salt? Any pictures of the under carriage?
