Insurance rate lowered

After buying my Jeep Cherokee I added it to my Geico Policy the next day. They gave me a full coverage rate of $110 and change for both it and my Escape.
After a few months, they asked that I fill out a mileage report on the Jeep. At this time, my rate never changed. After realizing that I drive the Jeep almost every day, I called Geico and asked about the mileage report, as I had listed the Escape as my primary commuter. After doing a mileage report on both vehicles they lowered my rate by $40/month. I was a little shocked as I have never in my life had an insurance company lower my rates for any reason. Come to find out they have a default of 12,500 miles a year per car. I told them I could only drive one at a time. I have no other drivers on my policy. I am posting this primarily to maybe help some of my fellow BITOGers out. If you have second cars or trucks that sit, Make sure you let your insurance know about it.

Every year AAA has us send in a form with the current odometer reading on each vehicle. They sent the original quote for insurance which I was good with. Then when the cards came they issued a credit for the difference based off the odometer readings.

Well, I have mentioned many times in this forum, it pays every six months to compare with other companies what your car insurance renewal is going to me.
Last year we moved to a new state SC to NC. My auto insurance was not going to renew my policy in the new state as they had a hold on new policies.

The prices I was getting where to me on the high side, though most would kill for the prices I pay.
Anyway at the suggestion in here from @JeffKeryk to try Costco Connect it worked out well for me. Both cars - $485 for 6 month premium, almost the same I was paying in my previous state.
Well, here we are, renewal time. Renewal price is $546 and this is where people get complacent. Most people it sounds like not such a big deal and that is how over time their rates creep up. Well, honestly an almost 15% rate increase is a lot. So I dumped them. With that said, lets face it, its still a good price but I am loyal to no one, low price rules.

So anyway, I go online and already signed up for a renewal to take place with a new company when my Costco connect ends at the start of Dec. I didnt get past the first website and found a killer rate of $387 for 6 months, two cars with Progressive. I NEVER GOT GOOD PRICES from Progressive on my cars and we never used them. However our motorcycle and boat we always used them. Last year our builder got us a good rate on homeowners from them. In the past state they never came close on that either.

But wow, 6 months $387, two cars, 500/250 liability including uninsured and under insured. Collusion and Comp on the 2017 Traverse and just comp on the 2012 Mazda. Im accident free, ticket free and excellent credit. Also the Mazda only is driven 4000 miles a year. Traverse less than 10,000

It could be a one time discount "come on rate" and if so I will switch in another 6 months, no big deal. My computer this morning just made me $159. in less than 30 minutes and that is tax free. I do this all the time. *LOL*

State Farm went the opposite way with me. The Cobalt had OnStar and I got a hefty (and I mean really hefty) discount for allowing it to tattle to State Farm about my annual mileage. The OnStar on the Cobalt is now obsolete and I think State Farm dropped the program in favor of their "Drive Save and Save" tattler. I used to have to provide an odometer picture at renewal time, but they stopped asking for that. My savings this premium period was a whopping $2.63. I may have to follow alarmguy's advice and start shopping around.

Yes, it pays. I drop insurance companies as soon as I find a better rate. That goes for all insurance, any time of the year and any time during the current policy. I dont wait for a policy to end in most cases because the previous insurer will mail you a refund pro-rated check for the unused term in most cases or better said all the time with me.

Jsut because I mentioned progressive. I did say their car insurance was never a best price for us until today. I remember many years back we even did their device that plugs into the port under the dash. Discount was a joke and dumped them. It's why I am loyal to no company. Its just insurance and what one company gives you a good price today, doesnt mean it is a good price 6 months from now if you do not check with at least 3 to 5 other companies. They are not your friend I tell everyone. Their computer programs and algorithms figure out ways to extract as much money as they can from the public. It's simple (and smart) business to make money.

At one time back in New York, almost two decades ago before moving south I got good rates from State Farm. I dont know if it was because we did a huge amount of business with them and our local agency or not but when we moved south we got slammed and I dumped them for all personal insurance needs, except a multi decade life policy I have with them.

Geico has lowered my rate based upon the miles I drive. I filled out a couple-three of their mileage reports.

I usually drive around 4,000 miles per year, but one year I made a x-country trip and my mileage was about double my usual, and Geico increased my rate. I contacted them and explained that I made an unusually long trip. They asked that I complete another mileage report and my rate was subsequently reduced.
