Got rear ended in heavy rush hour traffic. Stop and creep mile long. Just stopped. Women hit my left side of bumper and she was crossways with front right bumper damage. Both driveable got a police report. Called my insurance the next day they said they could handle the claim or their insurance. So i called theirs and filed a claim. Never heard of this before. My insurance would help if i needed their help. What to expect?

When my 2017 1-ton Chevy was totaled USAA handled everything. People said they had State Farm but it had lapsed, but USAA called them to verify and handled everything from there.

Wife got hit by someone years ago - they had "Nation wide". There was a police report clearly indicating it was the other persons fault. I called there insurance and had no issues. They said I could take it to their shop and I would get a "lifetime guarantee", or shop of my choice. There were a couple small bumps but overall was fine. I would go to their insurance direct - but don't take an crap from them, if its there fault.

Also, check our state to see if they allow "diminished value" claims, and if they do make sure you get it.

For me, it isn't worth my $100 deductible to deal with the other insurance company, so I subrogate to my insurance. I can then understand how my insurance works and can choose my trusted body shop easily. Too many other insurance companies play too many games.

If they have fly by night insurance, go through yours. They’ll get reimbursed. And you’ll get your deductible back later.

Never use the insurance recommended body shops. They do not have you in their best interest. You can take your car anywhere you want.

I’m assuming that you did not have collision on your vehicle?
