Hi All,

I am hoping to get this bike over the weekend and was wanting to check with you all concerning oil for it. I have a case of Schaeffer's 15w40 SynBlend and want to see if it would work for this bike? Thank you.

Thank you, Johnny! I bought the case a while back before the Auto Rx for my Volvo's and then decided against it for my Volvo's and need to find a use for it. I am glad it will work and not go to waste.

Well, once I get through this case I want to go with the Mobil 1 15w50.

Yes, I am pumped and hope the transaction goes through smoothly.

Thank you.

BMW R bikes are notoriously easy on oil. You have 4 quarts feeding only 1100cc's of engine. The engine oil services only the engine. The transmission oil is separate. Many bikes share the oil between both engine and transmission.

Hi mshuell,
this is why they live so long.If only i had a rear shaft.I ride long distances and it is really boring maintaining the chain.

Thank you all for the input but it appears that bike is not going to work out and I am getting a 1999 SUZUKI INTRUDER VS800 instead tomorrow. I presume the oil will still work for that bike as well.

are you sure?

Well, it is funny you stated that as I think the VS800 may be a better bike for me in the long run. I am going to try and see the bike Tuesday and make a decision then. The XV1100 is quite a drive from me and probably not worth the effort. I want a bike with good power and fuel economy and think the VS800 is the right blend.

Hi All,

The VS800 calls for 10w40...that kinda surprised me. Is there any conventional brand that will work for this bike? I am still thinking the Schaeffer's 15w40 syn blend would be fine for the bike until I am finished with the case but curious what you all think about an oil for this bike. Thank you.

my vote is rotella or any of the other 15W40's. motorcraft has a 15W40 as well. if you have the schaeffer's already i would run it with no concerns
