1998 Caravan Diff Fluid change Redline mix

So there was only once source of information that I could find my googling as far as the capacity of my diff. The source said that the rear diff held .7 quarts of fluid. This didn't seem right but I can't be sure since the Factory Service Manual says nothing about it. So I did the next best thing in my mind. There is only one drain/fill/inspection plug on the rear of the diff. I filled the diff with fluid until it poured out of the fill hole.

Unfortunately, I only had 2 quarts of Redline 75w-90 which I thought would be enough for the job. I ended up adding about .5 quarts of Redline MTL I had laying around which is 70-80 GL4.

So I guess 20% of the fill is Redline MTL. Do you think I will be ok?

Do I need more additives? I am not too woried about the weight but maybe I should be.

The diff is non lsd. Chrysler spec is 85w-90 for the rear diff but everyone else says it is 80w-90.

I have some mopar LSD additive laying around but not sure if that will help.

Is this mix ok, or did I take it too far?

Considering how many Caravans go through life without getting any fresh gear oil in there I doubt it will turn into a real world problem. Usage conditions make a difference, though. If wheelspin is something that vexes you daily, maybe try not to run that mix for more than 30k or so.

Are not the transmission and diffie shared by the same fluid?

Not shared...sorry this is an all wheel drive.

Come on guys, please provide me with some more opinions now that I have let you know the vehicle is all wheel drive. Not second guessing Yonyon who has helped me out in the past. Just want more thoughts. Do I need to drain this now that I know the capacity is much greater than listed and go buy 3 more quarts of redline? Expensive, but the rear diff costs more than the minivan! Maybe I can go buy an additive?

The fluid you mixed is just a tad bit lighter that spec....I would not worry about it because you are running a very high quality fluid....Redline!

Thanks LargeCarManX2...gotta wonder if the 90W on other oils is subject to sheer anyways like motor oil...maybe even bringing the weight down to 86-88W like I probably have in there anyways.

What I am more concerned about is the lack of additives....being GL4 for 20% of it, I now have 20% less of the GL5 additives.

Thoughts on that one Large?

GL-4 has been used in many applications from keeping certain metals from attack to keeping syncros from grinding, however....it still protects gears, bearings, etc!

Don't worry although it is a very tad bit lighter than spec, if the differential over approaches 100C it will be just as thick as M-1 75W90.
