So 1998 Buick Park Avenue Ultra with 300,000 kms, is no longer sending power to wheels. Transmission fluid is still there, fluid looks like the appropriate colour, and no terrible noises were heard. Car is just going into drive or reverse and sending no power to the wheels. I'm guessing its something electrical, any suggestions woul be appreciated before a garage charges me a lot for something I might be able to fix.

Also, I don't have an ODB reader so I can't get any codes that electrical problems might have sent off.

Thanks!

I suggest trying again tomorrow morning. Seriously. We had a 1998 Lumina LTZ that would do a similar thing, only when you were driving. After it would coast to a stop, if you shut it off and started over, it was fine.

That's not a solution but it might work temporarily.

Is there any sign that the transmission is doing anything? If you listen with the door open, you should hear noises as you move teh shifter. It's possible the transmission has died. Our jeep did the same thing.

The guy that works in the cube next to mine has 99 Buick in the shop right now with a broken flex plate. It failed on the freeway just as he topped a grade he coasted the 4-5 miles to the bottom and his shop towed it from there. He was also unable to start the car of course as the ring gear was no longer connected to the crank.
