I am not familiar with European makes regarding oil and filter changes. I am trying to help a friend get the car ready to sell.

I have checked several places on the internet and only found Mann filter cartriges for this model. From what I have seen, one needs a 36mm socket/tool to remove the cannister.

Is there a spin on filter available for this model?

Thanks in advance for the advice.

Is this a 4 cylinder? You mention European, and I know that some of BMW's cars are different over there. Anyway, all the new 6 cylinders require a 36mm socket to remove the filter housing cap. The 4 cylinder would require either a 13mm socket (old style), or a cup wrench.
The only filter to use is a cartridge.

It is the 4 cylinder engine. The car was assembled in Greenville, SC.

Yeah, the 4 cylinder with the plastic end cap requires a cup wrench. I don't know the size off hand. The older ones with the metal cap simply use a 13mm socket.
