My Acura Integra (Honda B18B1 1.8L motor, Non VTEC) specs 5W30 for all climates (recommended) and 10W30 for above freezing. This engine is really easy on the oil and recommends 7500 OCI's for normal driving, which is what I could be considered. 15 mile commute each way every day, running at 35-70. Mostly 60 on the 7 mile stretch of highway at the end of the commute. I know a lot of newer Honda engines are using 5W20 and, correct me if i'm wrong, some are back-specced to 5W20. Does anyone happen to know if it would be safe to run a 5W20 in this motor, and if so, would there be any benefits/harm?

Newer Honda engines can take 5W20 no problem. Older ones shall consider using 5W30 if the weather is mild to moderate (not hot). For Hondas operating in 100+F, I would go with 10W30 instead.

My 2c's worth.

p.s. you may try 5W20 but make sure that (a) your engine bearings are still tight enough to not make any rapping noise and (b) do a UOA afterwards to see if you are detecing excessive metal wear and if you do, go back 1 grade up (5W30)

Alright thanks for the advice, I think i'll just stick to what i've been using, I just wasn't sure if the 5W30 applied to the older engines.
