1992 Corvette transmission Fluid

Hello,

I have a 1992 corvette (LT1). the car has 50000 original miles I am changing the transmission fluid and filter. The car calls for Dexron 2E fluid.
They do not make that anymore. doing research it appears that I could use Dexron VI or Dexron 3 h. Because I will not get all of the fluid out will the new fluid mix with the old Dexron 2E. what would you recommend. Ive owned the car for 30yrs and only drive it a little in the summer/fall. any help would be appreciated.

Dexron VI is backwards compatible with Dexron IIE.

Valvoline Dex/Merc is the closest you will get to Dexron III, it is not licensed anymore, Mobil makes a synthetic version of Dexron III.

Nice car, post a picture. I'd go with Dex III, either would be fine IMO, but just to keep it close to the factory fill. Not sure how big a pain it is to drain the fluid, however 4 drain and fills will replace 100% of the fluid and you can put whatever you want to in it. M1 synthetic ATF could be fun.

The ZF6 doesn't use Dexron fluids, the 700R4/4L60 does.

thank you, for all the answers, The car is an automatic
the two I was looking at was ac/delco Dexron vi or Valvoline MaxLife, the only other option was valvoline dex/merc. and ill change the fluid a few times to try to get all the old fluid out, thanks for the info egg head. What are your thoughts on that.

Dexron 3, 6, or Maxlife, it really won't matter. The 700R4/4L60/4L60E will operate on any of them without issue. I've used all 3 of them in numerous versions of this transmission over the years. My 89 Camaro currently has Maxlife in it, my brother 99 Suburban is currently running Dex6. I usually use what I have available or whatever is cheapest and I can buy locally.

If it were my vehicle I would go for an officially licensed Dexron VI.

I personally run O'reilly's Dexron VI (Officially licensed) in my 03 4L60E zero issues, assuming your transmission is actually healthy then you should have no issues using Dexron VI which again is backwards compatible.

I would drop the pan, change the filter (use AC Delco/GM Genuine), fill it back up and run it for a few miles, if it has a drain plug drain it again if not use a fluid extractor and repeat a few times until the fluid is nice red and clean.

Be sure to buy the correct filter, never mix up a shallow with a deep or vice versa, otherwise say goodbye to your transmission.

I just wanted to say thank you for all the advice,
I decided to go with valvoline dex VI, I also ordered a doorman transmission pan with a drain plug, new filter. (I'll keep the original pan) it will be easier to change so I get all the fluid out.

Good choice in fluid.

Keep an eye on the drain plug with that pan, while the pans seem to be good quality by Dorman there is reports of seepage/leaking with the included drain plug gasket.
