I just acquired a 1990 JLG 60H man lift with unknown hydraulic fluid which needs to be changed. Is there someway to determine what kind of hydraulic fluid is in the machine? If not, is there a brand that is compatible with unknown fluid? The machine has a 50 gallon tank plus another 20 gallons in the system so even with a change there is still a lot of old oil in the system.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

I don't know of any compatibility issues with quality hydraulic fluids. I would just pick a quality anti-wear fluid that is easily available, and the correct viscosity for your temperature environment.

READ THE MANUAL!

Why does it need changed? Failure or water? If neither sample it and just use it if the analysis is good. The hydraulic system on these is not something to mess with if it doesn't need to be messed with.

Did read the manual that is why I am here. This is a 1990 machine and the hydraulic fluid recommended is no longer available. Reason for changing is that I know the fluid is at least 25 years old and I suspect the protection package of the oil is low. The plus side is there is no known water issues and best of all, no leaks on any system.

Locate hydraulic specialist recommended any AW46 but he works 100% on tractors. I am now looking for a good quality AW 46. Any recommendation for the NW US?

What is the fluid the manual recommends? You could also call JLG and see what the recommend. Being this equipment is holding you 60 feet up in the air isn't time to guess.

Thanks for the request for information. In 1990 JLG was recommending Kendall Hyken 052 Hydraulic Fluid for the 60H.
