My sister acquired a business that came with a 1979 Ford Econoline delivery van 302V8. It just turned 40,000 miles (yes original). I think the transmission is a C6 (code G). The trans works great. I would guess, by the color of the fluid, it has been changed. Would it be recommended to change the ATF? If so, what should it get? I guessed Type-F, but was told to use Dexron/Mercon. Ideas are appreciated! Thanks!

I think you want a Mercon compatible product. If it needs routine maint. yes, then do the ATF.
