We had an older couple from Oklahoma stop into the winery tasting room today. When I looked out the window I realized they pulled up in a 1978 Dodge Dreamer. We spoke for a while and the conversation turned to their Dodge. They've owned it since new and it has 63,000 miles on it. It's been used exclusively to pull their travel trailer which they had parked at a campground about 30 miles from the winery.
For those of you who are too young to remember them, a Dodge Dreamer was the iconic Dodge van with a pickup body grafted on. They were usually 1 tons and used to pull trailers-horse, travel, etc. We used to see a lot of them at the state and county fair back in the 1970's. The grill is about an acre of chrome, there are "bubble" windows in the back seat area, and a huge wrap around rear window.
Roy (his name) loved showing it off. They bought it new and when it's not pulling their trailer it's stored in a climate controlled building. It was quite the time capsule from the 1970's. If I would have had my camera with me I would have taken a picture, but I don't normally carry the camera around.
I haven't seen one of those old Dodge Dreamers for years, and theirs was absolutely like new, inside and out. Everything was original, including the white paint. If I had the slightest inkling he's be willing to sell I would have made him an offer, but there was no chance of him selling it-to ask would probably have been a bit insulting.
They did buy 5 cases of wine.
