I changed my oil today and decided to try 2 bigger filters I have. Vehicle is a 2001 Saab 9-3 SE HOT
First the Napa 1773.
To my suprise , it fits quite well . Now I will not be using this filter since it has a nominal filter rating of 30 ( OEM filter for our cars is 19 ). But I will be purchasing a amsoil synthetic filter of the same size, which has a micron rating of 10 or something along those lines.
The second filter,Napa 1515, it fits just fine and has a nominal micron rating of 19, so this filter is idectical in flow, psi, and micron filtering as the stock saab filter.
For both of the above filters, it was a little tight once I had to tighten the filer down all the way, there is a little spot on the engine that sticks out, next oil change I will be taking the dremel to it. I was able to properly secure the filter, but took a little more grunt to get it on.
With the 1515, I was able to add an extra 0.5 Liters of oil, now it does not seem like much, but since we have such a small sump, any little bit helps.
I am trying the larger filters purely for more oil capacity to combat any chance of sludge. My next filter will be the same size as the 1773 but the amsoil equivilent, so hopefully my oil capacity should be somewhere around 6 Liters.
I just finished a run of Elf 5w40 NX and will have a used oil analysis in a few weeks to see how well this oil held up.
I am currently running German Castrol 0w30, I will see how well this oil is. My first imperssions of GC thus far, it seems just as smooth as when I first put the elf oil in, but I seem to have more valve clatter. I thought GC was supposed to quiet things down.
