They might have used the high dollar German synthetic oil @ $10+ liter. oil filter is $20, plus $100+/hr labor rate.


The non-///M BMWs take BMW Synthetic 5w30 which goes for under $6/qt. The oil filter should be @$10 or less.

Just because it came with syn oil does not mean that some know-nothing dealer or garage might put conventional to save the owner a few bucks. Remember, many dont believe in syn oils...

Isn't this the truth. You don't know how many people who ask me if they can top off their oil with conventional if they are running syn. Or they've heard you can't go back to conventional after using syn. I simply point to the synthetic blends.

There are too many terrible service centers out there that wouldn't mind cutting a corner by replacing your syn with conventional to save a few bucks. Besides, how would you know?

I just remembered what the local Audi dealer was charging me for oil changes, $10 plus $15 for their filter, which I did not mind. I used my German Syntec. Those guys hooked me up.
