The car has been running on standard 5w30 It's whole life. At this mileage, 175,000 miles, what brand of standard 5w30 would be best for the engine?

Most if not all the API SM oils are using the same/similar base oils and additive package so it really doesn't matter. Just keeping doing what your doing.

Uh, how about YOU tell US what standard oil you've been using to obtain such high mileage on your car!

I've always used Valvoline dino 5w30 in my Integra and so did the previous owner since new, looks nice and shiny under the valve cover

But I personally think that since Honda engines are pretty easy on oil you'd be fine with whatever's on sale. Good luck!

My Accord is 9 years newer, but also has 175K. I've been using Pennz 5w20 (yellow bottle) since 100K, so I'd agree with the use what got you to this point, unless there is leakage or consumption issues.

I second the Maxlife recommendation. I had a 92 Accord and when I did my first oilchange on it I used QS 5w30 winter blend oil. It leaked a lot of this oil for some reason, probably because it was such a thin oil. I switched to Maxlife dino 5w30 and the oil usage went down to almost nothing. It would still burn a bit of oil at times, especially when revved hard but the ol' F22A1 did have over 200,000 miles on it.

Had a g/f with a '94 Accord and 220K on the clock. Always been changed at the dealer with whatever bulk oil they had. A few changes were done with synth blend if they were running a special or something. She still drives the car ~2000 miles per month.

At that mileage it really doesn't matter which oil you use. Stick with the name brands, buy on sale and don't worry about it. Or as the others have said, keep using what you're using. The engine seems to be OK with it so no sensible reason to change.

If you want some racing-type oil, ML but gl finding it..but thats racing and where that goes, Castrol is sure to follow as well. Otherwise, PP can be had cheaply at BOGOF at AAP and it's a full GRP III syn and tends to work best in stop and go traffic. When you're stopped completely and you hit the gas, it's like a roadrunner on PCP.

Dino oils to me are only worth it when you're breaking-in your car and there I would recommend Chevron, Havoline, Pennzoil or perhaps Mobil but lots of ppl here use dino for the life of their cars.

Ask yourself, do you want dino, blend, syn or HM oil? Based on that as well as what your needs are!

To be perfectly honest. Go to a shelf full of modern SM rated 5w30 Dino Oil. Now have your 4 year old daughter pick out one based on color..... if you dont have a 4 yo just buy the cheapest. All standard oils are formulated for exactly the same thing... to pass the API test.

I believe wavinwayne has a patent on that oil selection procedure.

I'm not sure what oil was used on it before. I put in 4qts of Valvoline 5w30 Premium or something today, it was the cheapest oil there so I'm not too worried about what kind I used anymore haha.
