since ita getting cold i took my gc for an oil change to a local shop that had an ad for oil change for 19.95,i didnt ask anything couse i would say the majority of shops use 10w30, but found out that they had put 15w40 inthe engine!i know that if it was summer it would be ok,but its getting cold,around 29f last night.Should i change it back to 10w30 or use it for a short 1k oc?

by the way the GC has 137k on it,and no leaks 1997 model
I run 5w30 in my GC for the winters. Yea, if it was 105 out, the 15w40 would be fine, I think below freezing is a different story. I would not run 15w40 in the winter.
FWIW, I had 10w30 in a month ago and it was very hard to start @25F. These 4.0L's don't like really cold starts.
My 4.0 doesn't mind cold starts, at least as cold as 12F, and I use 10W30 all year.
What brand was it? BTW 15W-40 should work well until it reaches around 5F.
Check your battery terminals for corrosion. Try Motorcraft oil, it's about 50% synthetic.
oil they use is kendall. i guess i'll buy 10w30 and the oil change my self. tks for the comments!!
