If you own a 2014-2017 Toyota Corolla there's a new service campaign finally. It's campaign JSD and supposedly involves checking the solenoid in the CVT and then reprogramming it. Their last one for same issue was suspended in April so this is the new attempt. Hopefully it's not suspended, too.

What is the problem that is leading to this campaign?
Not good especially when they have most of their eggs in the CVT basket.
IIRC some Nissan JATCO models are prone to solenoid sticking due to particulate in fluid. I have mine drained at around 36K miles. Happy too, as I was seeing mud on the tip of the dipstick.
Hopefully it isn't this contamination/filtration issue as a root cause.

Different maker, but my CVT was fixed at around 80kmiles under a warranty that was extended to 100kmiles by Subaru.
I learned by poking around online that this CVT was modified sometime during the production run of the 2015 model year to add a filter for the fluid and it is not possible to retrofit this filter into older vehicles like my 2014.
This is not giving me a warm fuzzy about my plan to run this vehicle to at least 160kmiles! Hoping for the best. Maybe something really big will break in mine before 100kmiles and they will slap one of the transmissions with the filter in there...

The computer for the CVT is programmed wrong so a part runs continuously in some vehicles wearing it out. It's vague like that. But, given the notice says reprogram computer and check solenoid for wear, I'm guessing it's the solenoid. Some unofficial Toyota forums are saying the first fix they suspende was due to only requiring a reprogram and if the solenoid was half baked and they did the reprogram the CVT would throw a tantrum. Some are also saying the most wear is in people who's CVTs run at higher RPMs for longer periods. Internet forums so who knows. If they fix and check the parts I'm fine with it.
Trav, supposedly the 2018s are immune due to the correct reprogram installed from factory. And supposedly cars like the Prius have different types of CVTs. This is all internet message board gossip I've read so take it as such. I haven't heard of mass Toyota implosions so they could just be doing their best to keep their owners happy by being preemptive.

Not just "supposedly," but certainly very different, where "cars like the Prius" covers all Ford and Toyota hybrids.

Had it done. They said mine wasn't worn and none of the ones they'd fixed yet were. So they reprogrammed and sent me on my way... With the typical car wash and vacuum.
The tech said he was hearing it was a pretty rare issue.
