Hey guys- First post and pretty excited to have found this page. I have been reading a lot. I did some searching and didn't find anything specifically answering this question.

I just got this truck and it is coming up on an oil change. I have read that due to it being DI (direct injection) Full-syn is all that should be ran. The price of full-syn is quite a bit more then the conventional I was use to.

Any suggestions of a fairly priced full-syn that will work well with the turbos and it being DI? If this has been answered can you please link me to the page? Looking to stay at the recommended 5w30

Thank you!

2012 Ford F150 Ecoboost 3.5L with ~70,000 miles

Most of the full syns are on 'Rollback' at Walmart ....Mobil 1 is currently under $23 for the 5 quart jug and is hard to beat at that price. SOPUS syns (like PP and QSUD) are great too and priced right at WM.

I agree with using full synthetic in your EB motor....nice truck......

Castrol magnatech has shown some very impressive results on a couple members ecobeasts.
I'm currently running Castrol Edge gold bottle in my 3.5. Valvoline would also be a great oil.
Or you can pick up what ever oil change special has the best price on synthetic oils when its time for a change. I run on oil between 5k and 7,5k miles

just because we read something it doesn't mean it is true. What does the owners manual recommend?

My truck didn't have a manual, but I know the dealers service them with bled 5w30. I figured going a step above wouldn't hurt.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Egoboost? Someone must be sad they don't have an awesome truck like us Ecobeast owners.

Which Valvoline?

I would look for something in your recommended grade that has the HT-06 and/or DEXOS certifications. I wouldn't cheap out on the oil since the difference between average oils and top tier oils is fairly slim when it comes to total cost of upkeep.

The synpower

Synthetic is not required by The manufacture.

But The price difference up From some of The blends along With not knowing How Much Synthetic is in the blend is some of the seasons I go with The Synthetic over The blends

M1 5-30 has the Honda turbo HTO-06 high heat low deposit spec. M1 5-30 performs very well in high heat conditions like turbos.

And millions of ecoboost equipped vehicles are on the road with comparable reliability and efficiency as more conventional powered vehicles using nothing but basic GF-5/SN PCMO's.

Yet this fact is a total mindblow for the majority on here.

It does not matter because there is not a API/SN ISLAC-GF5 PCMO that does not meet the warranty requirements.

Which is Ford Speak for SN / GF5.

If you read the fine print in the manual (under the lubricants spec table} it says any 5W30 with SN and Starburst so any 5W30 SN GF5 meets warranty requirements.

Magnatec really does look good in the UOA I have seen but Im not sure if its the oil or low fuel numbers that are responsible. Just bothers me to pay the same price for the 5W30 Blend as the 5W20 Synthetic even if Synthetic is a marketing term. I still read it as a lower cost base in 5W30.

That said I would really like to see someone run Supertech Synthetic and see how it holds up.

PS My F150 Baby Boost (2.7L) currently has Pennzoil Gold Synthetic Blend in it.

I like the Magnatec UOA's posted on BITOG in this engine so that is what I have lined up for both Eco-Boost engines I have. $16 for 5qt jugs shipped to my door from Amazon (with Prime and subscription).

Here is a link to a Ecoboost F150 using a special motor oil this P/U has the best showing UOAs so far. It defies the internet experts opinions. click here,

I like to call them Ego-boost's also to tease buddies. Theyre cool trucks though. Is there any high mile trucks out there yet? Id like to see how these do longterm. Might have to switch my username to FordBadger.

Almost all oils are blends today. Motul 300v Ester is one of the few real synthetics... And it's like $18/L over here in the USA.

Don't get hung up and the marketing speak. Severely hydro-cracked dino oils are "synthetic" too...

Just pick a nice durable blend that you know reports well on UOA's for your motor and cruise on

I'd fit the biggest filter that will actually fit to add a bit of capacity and offer the most media surface so that it flows well with cold oil
