Posting for reference for other Traverse and LAMDA platform owners.

Code:
Wear metals look great in this latest sample from your Traverse. Iron is all the way down to just 10 ppm, and

other metals don't show signs of poorly wearing parts. If your engine is having any mechanical problems, the evidence

isn't showing up in the used oil. The viscosity was spot on for a 5W/30, and no contamination from dirt, fuel, water, or

coolant was present. The TBN was good at 2.1, and the TAN was 6.3 - some acidity. You could go up to 7,500 miles on

the next fill. Iron might go up, but other metals should remain relatively steady. Give it a shot and check back.

Now this is a great example of UOAs being useful. A 10,000 mile OCI with this engine/oil combo is too long and 6,000 miles looks just about perfect.

OP: were you basing OCIs on the oil life monitor? Is this one of the engines where GM changed the oil life monitor algorithm to call for more-frequent changes because of timing chain wear? Has this been done to your car?

No, still too long. Pay attention on TAN: it is MUCH higher than TBN.

OK. So despite wear metals looking great let's go to 3 months, 3,000 miles. That should be safe.

Yes the previous two fills were AMSOIL OE.

This is a friends vehicle. They went by the OLM on that first oil change, it was down to 5%. It has not been reprogrammed. Not sure why, but will have to ask them.

On our 11 Acadia the OLM is way shorter and I get down to 5% I'm right at 5k miles every time.

When I changed the oil this last time the OLM was at 55%, the time before that it was at 47%. I try to keep in touch with them to keep it right at 5k mile oil changes. Their schedule and mine some times makes it hard but it is still easier for them to have me do it than to take it some where. Considering I pick it up at their work and drop it back off.

Yup, agree with 6k for this oil. Interested to hear for what type driving the vehicle is used. Is your buddy comfortable with the interval, and have you or he considered the XL or SS to go even longer?

being a 2011. It has the Dexos requirement.
So once they hit 100,000---
why wouldnt they just try Valvoline White Bottle dino?
$16 for 5 qt jug.
5000 intervals- oil available at all Wal Marts.

my 2010 with VWB.

Wear metal means almost nothing. This is a least thing to pay attention. There too many other conditions (oil filter, for example). It will catch significant pieces of metal and provide you an excellent result. How do you think, what will be numbers of iron in UOA for this camshaft? Do you expect 1000 ppm? Or may be 2000 ppm?

IMO this board routinely over values a UOA individually.

Members here have had engines blow up while posting great UOA's.

Their best value seems to be in trending, so get three or more on the same vehicle and you may spot something...
