Getting an M24 (legit, not a copy or build), but no scope. Army outfits with a Leupold 10x fixed. Generally I shoot targets at 100-200 yards at my preferrred range, but may want to get out farther with this.

I have a lead on a Leupold 10x, but looking for other options/recommendations. Will also be getting a set of iron sights as the mounts come on the rifle, and plan to become proficient with them.

Slightly intrigued by the SWFA SS, at least to minimize outlay while also practicing with the RPA iron sights.

Recommendations?

I think you are on the right course. A fixed power scope will give you better optics vs. a variable power scope in the same price range. A $300 SWFA SS fixed power scope will have better optics than a $300 variable power scope. For range work like you will be doing a fixed power is perfect.

I have a 12X SWFA SS that I use at similar ranges as you do and I highly recommend it.

Very cool!

As you probably remember, on my 700 5R Milspec I am currently running the Leupold LRP VX3i in 4.5-14: https://www.leupold.com/scopes/rifle-scopes/vx-3i-lrp-4-5-14x50mm-30mm-side-focus-mil-ffp

It's mil/mil and FFP, also inexpensive and has good glass. For 100-200 yards, it should be more than sufficient.

I have a cheap Russian 8 x scope on an AR . It has honestly surprised me at 200 yards . Biggest problem is all the writing is , of course , in Russian . Which , I do not read .

On the other hand , I own 2 Leupold scopes . I do not think you can go wrong purchasing a Leupold scope .

I think I have that scope on another bolt rifle I own. Perhaps I'll transfer it over.

I kind of want to use the legit item for the M24, but since Leupold stopped making the Mk4 the trade space opens up...

I'd go more mag. Nothing worse than getting a scope, and wishing you had more mag. Then again, I have old eyes. Maybe 3-20, 5-25, 8.5-25, etc. Just throwing some numbers out there. Not a fixed fan here.

If you are getting a legit M24 (congrats!), you already know the answer to your question.

I think you probably want it to be as close to military issue as possible, otherwise why spend the extra for the M24? Search for the proper scope - they are out there in the secondary markets.

I have a very similar Leupold to this. Great option if you don't go 10x. Gets a lot of compliments on clarity of the glass.

I'd slap an NX8 2.5-20 with a Tremor3 on it.

Cloning is cool, but capability is king. You're not stuck with the constraints and politics of a military contract, so why limit yourself to one?

But you're looking at a scope to get you buy for the time being with minimal outlay, so in that case,
https://www.swfa.com/swfa-ss-10x42-tactical-30mm-riflescope-3.html

and just flip it when done for minimal loss (or keep it and put it on something else, etc.)

Yeah it's real. Mine is model 25732 so I had to get the iron sights from Sarco and OK Weber. Ultimately I agree regarding getting a Leupold mk4 or m3a 10x if complete genuine look is key. But in the short term for my 200 yd range, and perhaps the long term until I have a need to reach out further, 10x may be good or not...

That said, I was able to grab an SS 10x locally, used, at a very good price. Haven't mounted it, but figure it's useful for determining what I ultimately want, or keeping it for the long run.
