You have to remember I said "assuming cost is no issue", but I bow to your "decades of experience".[/quote]

Sorry. I missed the cost is no issue. If that's the case I'd be using a caterham blend in the summer and M1 0w40 or devlac elite 222 0w-30 in the summer.
I still can't extend the drains though, fuel dilution is unavoidable,in my 5.5hp 160cc Honda engines anyways.
And as far as my decades of experience are concerned walk a mile in my shoes.

how about NAPA Synthetic-so close to Valvoline Syn on paper I use it a lot-on sale until Nov 17 for 3.49/qt. You can have your choice of 5-30 10-30 & 10-40 syn

I have run, what ever oil I had on hand left over from various auto and truck oil changes.
Always seems to be 1/2 quart or more left over every time.
Never have used straight 30 weight, and I still have one bottle in the basement that must be almost 15 to 20 years old.
I just change the oil (and oil filter if it has one like the riding mower) every spring, drain the fuel or add seafoam to the fuel in the fall on the last run of the year.

I only consider Synthetic if I have a high heat/Viscosity issue, like in my air/oil cooled 1200cc motorcycle.
In the city (San Francisco) the stop and go, up and down the hills overheated the engine so that the engine was sounding very unhappy.
Pour in the synthetic and it held up much better when overheated.
Was not supposed to be good for the clutch, but worked fine as long as I had it.
