Every car ive ever seen with an Oil Pressure gauge (1982 Olds 307 included) showed LOWER Oil Pressure w 10W-40.

I thought higher "Oil Pressure"w as a bad thing...

Back in the early 1980's, GM 'banned' the use of 10W-40 in all their engines in a quest for better CAFE mileage.

They used as a 'reason' that the VII's in 10W-40 would gum-up the piston rings, and cause engine problems. That may have been true with some oils and VII's, but mostly, the change was for economy.

There is absolutely nothing in inherently wrong with 10W-40. Modern 10W-40 use high-quality components, are cold-crank-rated down to -25C, and will work fine in all but the coldest parts of the continent.

We've just been brainwashed over the years that '10W-40 is bad', and most stick to that. I think in a 180k-mile 2.5, 10W-40 would be a great grade to use. That engine is direcly based on the Pontiac 301 V-8 from 1977, which originally allowed the use of 10W-40......
