Coming up on 1000 miles on the Supertech Synthetic Blend 75W90 GL5 gear oil in the Forester, and the weather has become sufficiently cold to render a preliminary opinion on cold start shift quality. It is in the manual transmission (which includes front differential) and the rear differential.
Seems to behave very similar to the way it did on the factory fill, actually it is easier to go from 2nd to 1st (while rolling) when the trans is still cold, than it was on the factory gear oil. From cold through warm-up out to full operating temp it is no worse than the factory gear oil and possibly slightly improved as far as driveline drag/stiffness feeling less noticeable during initial drive-off from cold outdoors start-up.
It is one of the thicker 75W90's with a cST @ 100C of 16.45, and @ 40C is 118.6, VI = 150.
I'll post back later in the midwestern winter with a progress report as temperatures dip further and miles continue to accumulate.
