I have a 2011 4cyl Rav4 with over 70,000 miles and I want to start going to 10,000 OCI with synthetic. The car is out of warranty so I don't care about sticking to the factory recommended 5,000 OCI which I do feel is kind of a waste for synthetic. I do over 17,000 miles a year and it is 90% highway with no towing and conservative driving. My question is can I use my current mixture of oil (5w20 Mobil 1/0w20 Toyota/Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20/Amsoil 5w20) to 10,000 miles or should I just change it at 5,000 miles and wait till I can use the same brand and oil weight for the 10,000 OCI?? I know the oil filter is capable of 10,000 because it has the same filter as my wife 2014 Rav4 which is good for 10,000. I appreciate the input...

I don't think 'mixtures' are smart for extended OCI's because the several different additive packages can create an oil that's not as good as any of them individually. If you were mixing M1 with TGMO (only) this might not apply since they are both E-M products and probably have similar packages.....this is just my opinion but I'd do 10K on any of those oils by themselves.
What is the genesis of that particular 4 oil blend?
I am wanting to do the exact same thing with our KIA. I don't believe running a mutt mix to 10k is a good way to go. Pick something at another 5k and if it works well for you stick with it.
I would do a used oil analysis to see how your current methods are working.
I used to run 10k changes on my CR-V when I was doing more than 40K per year on the highways. used oil analysis came back just fine. I use a steady diet of Pennzoil Platinum 5w20 in that car. 230k and going fine. Ironically it did not like Mobil 1 at all...started leaking a bit. Switched back, no issues after that.
I run Mobil 1 0w20 in my Pilot but that only makes it about 6k before the MM goes to 5%. A used oil analysis of a synthetic called Starfire my mechanic put in (wrongly) showed about a 6500 mile run would be best in that vehicle.
Do the research and make your decision based on that.

This is the first time I have done it in my years of doing my own oil and I only did it because I have limited room and wanted to get rid of a bunch of open containers I had...it is not something I plan on doing again because all my current vehicles take the same weight.
I'd only mix with the same brand (ie all M1 but different weights) but it's best to use the same brand and weight. For your vehicle it would be hard to beat Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 for performance and price but most synthetics will do fine for 10k with mostly hwy miles.
I would wait and run 10k on a non mixed batch of synthetic.
Oil's cheap--I'd just run one kind of oil. But your usage is pretty easy, so go as far as you'd like on that mix.
That I4 should be the same as my Camry's I4, the 2.5L 2AR-FE, and in 2011 Toyota said mine was good for 10k OCI's. Not sure why RAV4 would be 5k. That said, I might shorten the OCI on mine, last change indicated some oil usage and I'm not sure why just yet.

Dump the mutt-mix at 5000 miles, and put in a non-mix oil for the 10k OCI.
Mobil 1 Extended Performance 0w20 is good for 15k.
AMSoil Signature Series is good for 15k+
AMSoil XL is good for 10k
Fram Ultra, AMSoil EA, NAPA Platinum, Wix XP for filters

Because the Fram Ultra might be the best filter for the $$$ around. Mine is not "fancy"...and cost less than $9 at WalMart.....and its guaranteed foe 15K.

Thanks again for all the info and based on this I am going to only do 5,000 on my current mix and do a 10,000 with a Mobil 1. All of my Toyotas seemed to run well with Mobil 1 but that was not the case with my Honda's, Pennzoil seemed better with them.
If you like Mobil, then use Mobil 1 Extended Performance for 10K miles and also a Fram Ultra oil filter...

I've run a mix of oils for 20 years @ 7 - 11,000 miles OCIs. Works for me.
