Have your frig hiss at you! Did it twice! I about ran out of the room screaming like a girl.. yes I don't like snakes. Pretty sure what is was as we killed 4 a few months ago but didn't get them all. And crickets are extremely quiet now not mention the back cover to the frig is pushed out that I just put on a month ago. Is it just me or is city living worse with critters than living on the farm? My parents never have the problems we've had with critters and they've lived on their farm for 35 years.

Must be KS. I cant say that Ive seen more than a garter snake (and certainly not inside the home), ever.

Inside your home? I'd be working to find out where the holes are in house that are large enough for a critter to crawl through and fix them.

And no, snakes don't bother me in the least. We have a variety of snakes, and especially this time of the year see them sunning themselves on the asphalt trail as we're walking or biking.

i dont screw with snakes either. Here in chicago we dont see much other then over-sided raccoon, possums and w/e else in their family. Rumor has it we have a couple of REAL cougars escape and isn't able to get caught yet.

I have heard of snakes in peoples house's here but it is rare. Garages are another thing. Black snakes are often found in garages. They are good snakes and kill rodents. even though we have some sakes, bites are rare.

Hello, After taking a shower a 5 foot black snake opened the sink cupboard and was heading to the water in the shower stall for a drink (I think). Scared me to death. Then I thought, "Hey, it's just a black snake-a big garter snake really".
Snakes are cool because they're an indication of a clean environment. The life/food cycle has to be in place for snakes to live. GO SNAKES! Kira

I have garter snakes all over my yard. The only bad snake I've seen was a big bull snake last year. Thankfully I've never found one in my house! That would suck. My 2 cats would have a field day with one though.

I can't stand snakes. We don't have many around here and I've never had one inside my home even in areas that had more snakes. I know snakes fulfill an ecological purpose but I prefer they stay away from me and out of sight.

Oh I know snakes have a purpose. Unfortunately have 2 little ones in the house. Garter snakes can be a little poisonous from what I've read. I'm not worried about me it's the little ones. Whatever it was was gone by the time I got home. It's probably in the basement now.. darn. There was a dead mouse in there but it had been there a while. Truthfully I don't know where anything could be getting in. I've used 3-4 cans of expandable foam around the foundation. Typically the cat gets alot of what gets in but he's been rebelling lately with another baby in the house.

They only bother me down here because they are nasty and aggressive, and pretty dangerous to children and pets.

At work, we have copperheads and tiger snakes on the station site, tigers sometimes in the power plant. Workmate had a copperhead in his shed, right in town.

In the district, we've got browns and death adders (and rumours of the fierce snake too).

death adders?

Lots of snakes are venomous. Their fangs are in the back and calm the food down as it goes by. A garter snake isnt much of a threat. Marina even got used to the 2 garters that lived in her flower beds.

Shannow, is it true that all the snakes in Oz are poisonous?

About a year ago, my mother opened up the cupboard above the kitchen sink, and a flying squirrel flew out. She was quite blase about it at Thanksgiving dinner. The silence was deafening as her kids digested this factoid. Mum is 91

There's a couple of python type that aren't venomous, but around here, if it's a snake, it's poisonous. Their fangs are at the front, and delivery is like a hypodermic. Exception is the sea snake which sort of chews on the victim.

We've got the most venomous stuff in the world (including spiders, octopus, jelly fish), and there are researchers that believe that our monitor lizards are venomous as well.
