So many people here complain about the government taking away freedoms and yet...here you guys are complaining about what somebody else does with their money. Until you guys make his money for him, plenty of Kens and Karens here should keep their nose out of what other people want to do with their own money.

Well except when some of these people get in too deep and walk away.

And then the costs get passed along to everyone else. As long as the consequences of their actions don't impact me, I don't care--but if we have to have various bailouts that in turn increase my tax load... or the economy somehow craters... then it impacts me.

At the very least I do think I'm allowed to have a negative opinion.

I agree but just how many times was a bailout, large tax increase, or tanking economy based off vehicle purchases? Correct me if I'm wrong but all those notions (tax increase, tanking economy, etc) were based off something that was largely uncontrollable from an individual or even from a minority aspect (numerical minority, not race).

[Generally speaking] I only skimmed through the pages but overall the OP's coworker could be perfectly fine paying that monthly price. Maybe he doesn't want to buy 40 acres of land or doesn't want to buy another or a bigger house. Maybe all he wants, to be happy, is that truck and that $1,300/month payment is perfectly fine for him.

EDIT: I'd like to add this for those who can afford to keep up with the high payments, no matter their "direction in life".

Well…1965? Seems kinda’ new…I mean, after the war and all…real classics are quite a bit older… 😏
Ya done out chest thumped me, Astro. Well done; I stand humbled.
Interestingly, I've owned 3 cars from the Fremont plant: 65 Oldsey, 93 Toyota 4WD 22RE strippie (over 400K miles now) and the Model 3.

Good question, not sure. Seems like the last tanking was from banks lending for homes. Maybe it was other factors too, I was too busy working to pay for what I had bought.

Now that car prices are headed towards what homes used to cost...

No rain drop ever thought it was responsible for the flood.

Won't disagree. If the guy is happy living in a van down by the river, but otherwise has his checkbook balanced, then I don't care. If anything I'm happy for him. Sleeping well at night is a good feeling. Everyone has their own vices.

“I had CDR Heatherly in my sights. I had the shot, and I took it. There was no danger…”

😎

You know I love your cars, Jeff! Particularly the 442. I’m an Oldsmobile fan, and the provenance on yours makes it a very special ride.

A year ago, with a good credit score, you could get a 5 year loan with interest rates under 2.5%

No longer the case.

Sue's beloved Oldsey just might be the most original example left. Right down to the worn 4-Jet and horrible Junk-Away 2 speed. Dog dish hubcaps on skinny 14" steelies baby! 97K, always garaged. If it were a Chevelle or a Goat, it would be far more valuable. Value? It is a true piece of Americana.

Given its history, its provenance, it’s a very valuable car.

Survivors, as a category, have exploded in value. There are few left. Yours is one of them.

Don’t ever sell it.

Of note, in a thread expressing shock over what people are willing to pay to put a depreciating asset in their garage, @JeffKeryk has filled his with cars that are appreciating in value.

Even his Tundra has been going up in value.

There is a big lesson in that.

Or we just know that when there is a bailout, we are the ones tapped to provide the money.

I could really care less what someone does as long as I'm not the one tapped to bail them out.
If someone can afford a $1300 payment and pays for their home, food, health coverage, etc, more power to them.

A lesson? Me? Please. I am 100% knucklehead. I do love my old Tundra except it sucks the gas.

Luck?

If only that Olds was a Vista Cruiser he'd have something.

It’s really if they’re doing it by theft of PPP funds (or something like that). Or, if to clean up their mess it ends up being theft of my kids’ future by printing money and destabilizing markets based upon their frivolity.

If their bad decisions meant they had to end up living in a ditch somewhere, I’m ok. When it ends up being “fixed” at the cost of others, not so much.

Partially true

But we also pay their consumers debt almost directly with higher prices

I don’t care what people buy and pay for but debt is evil
One man's debt is another man's asset. As long as debt is paid, it's a force of good. Debt that cannot be paid is a problem.
